Going Green with a new building is not a "no-brainer." Hundreds of decisions are needed in response to challenges in programming, design, construction, operations and management. It requires commitment and a different way of thinking from the conventional. The respected social service organization, Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH), made the commitment to go green with its newly opened facility in Baltimore. It took dozens of brains to figure out how to deliver a LEED Gold building for a non-profit organization, with limited budget, in a very tight, urban setting. Join ULI Baltimore's District Council as we host a presentation for a case study on Healthcare for the Homeless' new building. at 8:15 am

    Application Deadline: Campus Green Building 101Technical Assistance Grants Program As part of the Advancing Green Building in Higher Education Program, Second Nature will award 15 technical assistance grants of up to $2000 each to provide building professionals that work with under-resourced higher education institutions with green building training opportunities. Schools that have received Title III/V designation from the Department of Education and that are in states with relatively low numbers of green building projects (MO, SC, TN, UT, AR, KY, KS, ID, NE, LA, MS, WV, OK, WY, ND, SD, AL, IN, MT, NM, and DE) are invited to apply. Awardee institutions will nominate at least one external building professional (e.g. construction contractors, architects, designers, engineers) that they work with who will select among green building training opportunities that meet the requirements of the program. all day

    Submission Deadline– Great Green Place video Everyone can name great public places, such as parks, squares, and outdoor markets found in cities across the country. But what makes these places work? Why do people seek them out and congregate there in large groups? And what makes some of public spaces “greener?" In an effort to provide a “decoder ring” to reveal what makes these places so successful, the National Building Museum presents a series of mini-documentaries that identify the specific elements that help make Great Green Places. Submit your video for a chance to be selected for live screening as part of the Museum's participation in the DC Environmental Film Festival in March 2010. Judged by audience response and Museum staff, the top three film submissions will also be featured on the homepage of the Museum's web site for two weeks each in the spring of 2010. all day

After four years of development and public feedback, the Initiative has released the nation’s first rating system for sustainable landscapes. 04: Hope for the Chesapeake Bay: A survey of challenges and solutions in the community

Saturday, February 27, 2010 | Brunch, 10 a.m.| Program 10:30-12 p.m.

Moderator and long time environmentalist, Gerald Winegrad will walk us through a brief history of the state of the Chesapeake Bay allowing us to take a look at how political, policy, and societal issues threaten our national treasure today.   Leaders and activists will share their experiences at both state and federal levels as we explore the steps citizens can take to successfully revitalize our local waterways.  Funders and local environmental groups will be on hand to help get you started today!
