Many of us do not live in Oklahoma, the Philippines, or Ethiopia -- places deeply affected by climate impacts. For those of us not in directly-impacted communities, there are countless ways to stand in solidarity with those on the front-lines of the climate crisis: some people will be giving presentations in their communities about how to connect the dots. He will describe the specific defining criteria of the Passive House standard, general design principles, and common design approaches in existing projects in North America. Michael will also discuss the certification process, compatibility with LEED, life-cycle impacts of insulation products, and other sustainability issues associated with pursuing low-energy design. Passive House is a building standard and methodology that delivers 90% heating and cooling demands as compared with standard construction. The standard was based on the work of North American pioneers of passive solar and super insulated building design. The approach was further refined and quantified by Prof Bo Adamson of Lund University, Sweden and Dr. Wolfgang Feist, the founder of the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt Germany.
